Forced child marriages are a tragic reality in many parts of the world, a practice that robs young individuals of their childhood, autonomy, and the opportunity to shape their own destinies. In A Year of Starless Nights I delve into the harrowing depths of this issue, shedding light on the lives of those affected and advocating for change.

Survivors of forced child marriages often suffer in silence, but in this story we see a strong young woman – portrayed from the comfort of my couch. I choose to show Shilpi and amplify the voices of young girls who have the same desires as those anywhere in the world. We amplify the voices. We hear the stories of individuals who managed to escape these marriages and their journeys towards recovery and empowerment. Their resilience is both inspiring and heart-wrenching. Though Shilpa’s story is fictional – without her victory we can only imagine the despair.

In many communities, forced child marriages are deeply rooted in tradition and cultural practices. We het a small window into the origins of these customs and the challenges of challenging deeply ingrained beliefs.

The fight against forced child marriages involves legal and human rights efforts. Breaking the cycle of forced child marriages requires comprehensive solutions.

By shedding light, together, we can break the chains that shackle young lives and pave the way for a brighter, more equal future.
